They are saying that this is the Star Trek movie for non Star Trek fans.
Hopefully Star Trek fans will like it as well. |
I've actually been interested in checking out Star Trek...especially the original stuff. Any suggestions? |
ToS is good if not incredibly cheesy. The ToS movies are awesome. TNG is good, the movies are cheesy but okay. DS9 is kinda meh up until the war starts. Voyager is meh. Enterprise I heard was very good, I just haven't had a chance to watch it yet.
Oh yeah and apparently ToS is coming out on Blu-Ray with completely remastered special effects. And I found an example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_qdTA9SvQQ |

I mostly agree with BM here.
TOS is ... super cheesy and I can't even watch it most of the time.
TNG is great once you get past the first season of "how the hell do we make a star trek series again?"
DS9... I'm with BM on this one. for the most part it's pretty meh... but when the wars starts... AWESOME! There's a reason my dogs are Sisko and Nerys. There's also the alternate universe episodes which are really cool.
Voyager I loved.
Enterprise was really good and ended well before it's time.
As for the movies... Opinions vary but my take...
Star Trek TMP - meh... not bad
2: Wrath of Khan - good
3: Search for Spock - meh
4: Voyage home - hilarious!
5: The Final Frontier - meh
6: The Undiscovered Country - Good
Generations: Really Good!
First Contact: AWESOME!
Insurrection: not bad
Nemesis: Good
Now comes the new movie which I'm REALLY looking forward to! |

Just come back from watching it, and I have to say, I am IMPRESSED!
Karl Urban is awesome as McCoy, and the entire cast is good.
There are so many twists from what I thought would happen, that I was kept guessing all the way through.
A highly enjoyable film, well thought out and executed well, with a good dose of action, drama and a few laughs (mainly involving Scottie) thrown in for good measure. |

I was amazingly surprised with how good the movie was. As Robb said it was nearly impossible to predict what was coming. The movie was so Like but Unlike Star Trek it was crazy. Prob one of the best re-envisionings I have ever seen of anything.
Shino my only real problem with TNG is how bad the techno-bable gets in the series. |

One word for Ming, Underpants and Tobias: Spagina!
Ohmigosh what a fun flick to watch!
Didn't help they had a GI Joe trailer at the beginning - oh sweet Sienna Miller. |

TNG? Do you mean Voyager? That was significantly worse with the techno babble. I guess the reason it didn't bother me that much is that I actually understand some of the stuff that is based on actual known physics. IE not the warp physics BS.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo doubt!
The movie was awesome and GI Joe looks like it's going to be awesome as well.
There was a Transformers preview too.
So much awesomeness in such a short time.
You guys should have seen Shan. She was squealing with glee throughout the movie. |

I didn't watch enough of Voyager to see how bad it gets, TNG isn't particularly bad till the last couple of seasons. And I don't just mean making of physics that don't make sense, I'm talking more of nearly ever problem is fought with a magically new technology that you usually only see for one episode.
"Oh hey I just created this magic tachyon detecting device and we can use it to do such and such."
Oh and I still think they way Kirk originally beat the Kobayashi Maru was better than this go around. |
