This from Microsoft on why the new $300 Elite model doesn't include HDMI or composite cables. I guess XB users all have standard def TVs???
Sony also used that "most people..." crap when explaining why they took out the PS3's backwards compatibility. I don't know who they survey since me and the fam just got finished playing some Poy Poy on the PS3 just tonight (and Blast Chamber last weekend tho it's better on Saturn). My son also plays PS2 Quake and PS2 Unreal (which does look really really bad now) on the other PS3.
So how about some truth like "we took out the (feature) so that we could reduce the cost"? I mean 6ft HDMI cables cost around $5 shipped on Amazon. |

They want people to buy their $40 component cables or HDMI kit.
Sure you can use any old hdmi cable, but you have to buy the kit to get the optical out port since it's located on the component cable itself.
Just like Sony wants you to buy a PS2. |

Yeah ... it works fine... and I do that on my PS3 as well.
But if there are those out there that want the optical audio... they have to buy the hdmi kit that M$ sells. |

Have you guys had the price of the 360 arcade unit increased too? That one completely baffles me, OK if they swapped the Pro/Premium and made THAT the arcade unit I could see why it'd be the price it is, but as it stands its had a £30 increase in price with the Elite dropping in price, the Pro/Premium is completely gone now. |

I read that they only increased the price in Europe. The Arcade system here stayed at $199 while the Elite dropped to $299 (replacing the Pro package).
Sorry about that.
Oh yeah, I ordered some more HDMI cables just today. $8.97 for three 6ft cables. Less than $3 each including shipping. |

Sounds about right, not that I car, I've already got a 360. Actually it E74's on me about a month ago, literally a day before Warranty ran out, got a refurbed unit back. |

E74 is a general hardware error, which you have to diagnose using the lights on the front of your machine, mine was A/V related, but all E74 errors are covered by the 3 year warranty now. |
