I guess the old adage "you get what you pay for" really hits home huh? LIVE has never had these issues because they control their servers, not freaking GameSpy or loft or whatever. I love my PS3 for it's 3D features and BluRay. But it's online SUCKED even before this outage. It is poorly implemented into the system, trying to get games going, or talking to friends is completely disjointed and not fluid. I wouldn't replace my PS3 if it broke down, but I would totally buy another 360 in a second. I really hope that Nintendo and Sony quit trying to reinvent the wheel, and just give M$ props for having paved a better path to online connectivity and pay homage to it in their next iteration.

Online is less important to me, but I definitely see your point.

PSN is not down b/c something is currently wrong... PSN is down b/c the root code that was found is allowing people to get games of PSN for free. Blame Geohawtz or whatever that douchebag's name is for publishing the root code on the internet.

Sony took it down and they are rebuilding the security protocols on the network.

Does it suck that they are doing it, yeah of course it does. But I'm sure those that are upset will be compensated when PSN comes back online.

As for the systems... Yeah... PSN is not as good as Live, but there are too many other things about the system that are the right way to do things for me to get to upset about it. I'm the opposite... If I were to lose my PS3, I would replace it... 360 on the other hand... not too sure. PS3 definitely has the better list of exclusives and the Blu-ray, UI and media functionality puts it ahead of the 360 in my book... Not to mention the flexibility of the machine to allow you to use whatever Hard Drive and other devices you want.

Gaming would be a better "place" if Sony and MS got together and Sony made hardware with MS software to run the online.

I totally agree Shino, except about the UI. How can PS3's UI be better, when half of the features in it make you completely back out of whatever you're doing to make any changes? I'll never agree that the XMB is better than any system that XBox has used, whether it's the "Blades" or the New Xbox Experience. BluRay is awesome, but I would prefer to use my PS3 to play games, and the reality is that the only games I actually PURCHASE are online enabled. The thing about Xbox is that ALL games are online enabled with full feature sets because M$ demands it, and it's written into the basic code of the game. Sony is more "meh" about online features.
I have to say, I might replace my PS3 if it broke down for one game, Mortal Kombat- it's pretty in standard 2D, but it's STUNNING in 3D. That is the only reason I picked it up on PS3, the game is so good, I will probably pick it up on 360 just because thats where I prefer to play online, but then again, I haven't had the chance to try it on PS3. But if I do get it for 360 too and my PS3 went down, I still wouldn't replace it, I would just get a new BluRay player and wash my hands of Sony until their next system.

Oh yeah, heres a funny fact.

PS3 can play BluRay discs, but not stream BluRay rips. But guess what? 360 can stream BluRay rips no problem, so the "extra fidelity" of BluRay DISCS is kinda irrelevant.

I liked the Blades. I still use them. I pull up the guide menu and do everything from there b/c the new UI I just hate. It's too jumbled with garbage and it pretty much IS the XMB... just littered with ads and other crap. The XMB is fast and familiar. As for things making you back out... I've noticed just as much of that on 360 as PS3 really. It boils down to preference. I would take the blades over all of it, but the XMB is above the new 360 UI IMO.

No argument here. The one thing I think is really missing from PSN's online feature set is cross game chat. I just don't get why that's not in there. For me, I don't play online nearly as much as you do so it's not as much of an issue. Because of that, the exclusives are what would make me keep my PS3.

From what I understand from people that have played it already... the online on the PS3 version of MK is pretty trash. They may fix it, but who knows.

Hmmm... I would think TVersity would allow you to do that if you ripped it to the right format. But regardless of that... the fidelity is only irrelevant if you use a lossless method of ripping the disc. Uncompressed will always look better than compressed.

So online play for PSN came back up over the weekend.
Got a chance to play some Portal 2 coop with someone on PS3 while I was on Steam.

I was REALLY impressed at how well it worked. Surprised the hell out of me. No lag or anything.

I'm trying to come to grips with the game more before I do online co-op. I have two friends bugging me to jump in but I'm not competent yet.
I've gone back to Unreal and it is still better than any other shooter on PS3 especially anything with the initials C, O, & D in it.

Since it's release I still can't count ten exclusive games on the XB for me so I haven't bothered. If they can pull the rest of the good Saturn library (Dragon Force and the Japanese versions of the Capcom fighters would be a good start) from Sega now that they have Guardian Heroes then I would want to get a 4G model. Then again, that's a waste of money so they'd really have to do something big for me...like an XB1080.
