I've been reading Robert Jordan's, Wheel of Time series, since 1990. Book ten was released in January and I finally finished reading it yesterday. You may ask why It took me that long to complete it. Part of the reason is that I tend to read before I go to bed, or when I use the washroom. I don't sit down and read for a few hours, so It tends to take a month or so to read a 700 page hardcover. The other reason is that the book itself, went nowhere.

Robert Jordan is a talented writer in my book. His characters are compelling and his writing has a great visual quality that really draws me into his world, but when you're writing a long series you need a roadmap and I've come to the conclusion that he doesn't have one.

I would say the first five books were great, but since then it's been a downward spiral. More and more characters are added in each book and the story has steadily increased in scope. After ten books one would assume things would really start to come together and you could see the end drawing near, but honestly, all the primary characters are still scattered about and I don't see the end in sight.

Three majors plotlines/ happenings were set up at the end of book 9 and I figured that's what book 10 would deal with. Having completed book 10, nothing was resolved ...

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!~

Maybe I should just wait till 2010, when the series is completed and then read them. So far, a number of friends have stopped reading until the series in done and now I see why.

Curse you Robert Jordan!!
