Bryan you had me rollin with that!

Thank you all for your luck.

BWS good luck to you.

In other news today...

Yesterday I had my first match with someone of my level. It's 2 min rounds and first to 5 pts wins. Well I scored first, then he scored on me, then I got 3 more points so the score was 4-1, me. Then I get defensive and he scored 3 more on me. So at 4-4 and "next point wins" I stopped being defensive, went in with a turning round kick and before hit even hit shot a back fist to his head. He blocked the round kick and the back fist hit him. Score me. I win.

Point is to BWS. Be agressive. I'm at the same level you are, and at this level, most people will not be. If you go defensive, bad things may happen. All of his points were when I was trying to block a combo from him and I would block the first 2 or 3 hits, then the next one would tag me. Don't let yourself get in that situation.

Later, after class, I talked to the guy I spared with a little. Come to find out he used to compete in illigal street fights in Miami using all kinds of techniques. He was also taller... and bigger... then I am. For those who know me, it's not easy to be "bigger" and still be able to move around like me. But he did. As we were talking, we both agreed we didnt' want to fight eachother agian in the tournament, we would rather be in different divisions and both bring home trophies. So that's the plan. Tomorrow's the big day. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Good job man! I bet that feels pretty good. I always liked stuff like that. You always meet cool new people. Course, I go to yoyo competitions and vocal competitions, not martial arts competitions, but it's the same concept. Anyway, congrats on the win! Good luck in the next round! *more good chi!*

P.S. More good chi to BWS-1 too!

Results...

Well I competed in two events.

Unfortunatly, there were on two people in each division. Which really sucked. From all of the Dojo Schools we have, there were only 3 people in our division total. I competed in two events and the other two were in 1 each. So they were my opponents. And the people in my division were both from my school... so I was competing against my friends...

Forms... Got 1st. Yay!

Fighting... Well I fought the same guy I fought on Thursday. This time I was required to wear that damn cheast protector. Hate that thing. Well, what ended up happening is I lost the match 5-3. Why? Because you aren't aloud to hit the person in the face. Well, sux that he turned his head when I was punching huh. Oh well. I hit the guy in the face twice. First time was a warning, second time was a point for my opponent. Damn face contact rule. Without that rule, I win the match... bastards. Oh well. Next time.

People who find loopholes in the rules to give them match wins really suck. It's like when I'd go to wrestling tournaments and you opponent would clam up on bottom, but you'd get the warning for stalling, not him.

Bull really, but hope you had fun, and that guys remembers you're not going to be pulling punches to the face

Congrats Shino! I would have like to see that. I've never seen a karate tournement in my life. heyhey.

Well, on my side, when I arrived saturday morning, I quickly noticed I wasn't the only yellow belt ... but it meant nothing since I got my yellow belt in 1992, so I've lost the experience of it, therefor I was only worthy of wearing it theoricly, but I knew I was nothing but a white belt among the others.

I don't understand how the points were working, but I knew it was a one point match. So it's pretty short ... usually that is. My first combat was the longest, and I'm not too proud of the win I've got since I won because the other was dead tired, so I easely disposed of him err, I mean I easely pinned him to the ground, yeah ^^;;.

The other combats were darn quick. I've tasted the bitter taste of defeat twice, by 2 different opponents, AND with them doing the same trow ... I'm still having trouble digesting those defeats, especially since on my 3rd fight, the one who won over me ended up 1st. If I'd have won he would have droped at least 2nd ... or 3rd.

Anyway, I am happy he won, he deserves it. I was amazed by the spirit in the gym where the tournement was held. Everyone respected each other, there was no rivalries, maybe only friendly rivalries with friends from different dojos but nothing violent and all. I can't wait to have my "revenge" on the gold medalist. He too was interested in a possible other confrontation in an other tournement. That almost brought a tear to my eye to see such mutual respect in the group.

The second guy that won was my first defeat, he fell on me accidently as he was performing a trow, that would ahve normally be called a "koka" (advantage to participent X) but the judges decided it was a "ippon" (one point or immidiate win). And guess who ended with the bronze medal? ME!!!!! I really am proud of that tournement and can't wait for the next one next week!!!

In moments like these, I don't regret seeing judo as a sport, because the art itself is too dedly to be tought as a sport. As a matter of fact, the kodokan judo thought around the world is almost only just the "sport" version of the "way"; more then 1/3 of the moves have been cut off the move lists, and those moves are the "atemi waza", or striking techniques. Those were meant to hit designated points on the body to kill or seriously wound the attacker. And even when they were still being thought, only the high level black belts could start learning them, IF ,of course, they were worthy of getting to know such techniques.

Again, congrats Shino! and good luck for your futur tournement Wink

Congrats BWS-1 for your sucess at your tournament! My good chi wasn't as powerful as I'd hoped, but it seemed to have served you well! It's also really cool to hear that the atmosphere of both tournaments were so friendly and open. It's nice to see that there are those that still have respect and sportsmanship in this day and age. Maybe I ought to start doing martial arts... wait, that's right, I'm too busy. Dang it.
