Actually, these are two older pieces that I found the other day that I decided to play around with and ink.(Crudely as remember, I have only just started to play around with inking) I've been doing waaaay too much fanart and it's time to return to my more comic book/western animation roots. The question is whether this just doesn't appeal at all to anime fans or not.

I'm not sure the intent of the question, but the pictures look very interesting. Whomever these characters are, I'm sure we'd like to hear more about them. |

Sorry, I did forget to explain what they were. The first is someone else's character (her story is found at http://www.tcp.com/~barker/fiction/saylea/toc.html ) that I had drawn in order to try to nudge her into continuing writing.
The second pic are two characters I've been playing with in my own little universe for going on five years now (http://www.sherlgirl.com/scribbles/heir/) and which I kept pushing aside because of school. |

I think that you will find anime fans are a curious breed in that they apperciate art in all media and styles, be then pen, ink, computer, Western, shojo, action, or whatever.
Those are excellent pictures, and only make me wonder whether if I trained at drawing for a long time whether I could produce anything that I would be proud of. |

Oh those are great I'd love to see more. I started out with animation some of which was anime although back then I didn't know about it. From animation i got into comics and then into anime and manga. I believe Silver Adept is right anime fans do have a wide appreciation for all art. |

Cool! They look like sketches of RPG characters, I mean, they'd be worthy of being characters in upcomming cool random RPGs! Such as, well, some morrowind like game or Zelda-Gen (sort of a new name for a new kind of look for a zelda game) I dunno. |

Thanks guys. I don't know about all anime fans.. I'm on a mailing list for fanart for a particular series and it seems that one of the persons really dislikes anything that doesn't look exactly like what the mangaka drew. But is fanart really fanart if you're copying someone's drawing?
And on another anime community, people really didn't like my fanart stuff because I didn't draw people with big eyes... oh well. I can't help it if people aren't open minded to the variation in style...
Sigh. So I think I'm staying away from anime fanart as much as possible now as a result. But it's hard to do original characters because truthfully, you have to work harder to get some sort of response, you know?
But regarding the RPG look of characters -- the two stories are very much fantasy genre so that's why I went that way. I grew up loving fantasy ... and sci-fi. |

And yet Berserk was an award winning series and everyone's favorite Vampire Hunter, D had small eyes. I think Most anime artists are moving away from the big eyes small mouth thing in serious Anime's. There's still a place for the sit-com/humorous toons.
But in the serious relm we can see the westernization taking ahold what with defined muscle charachteristics and more in depth action instead of just stop-animation.
So basically I'm sayin people who only wanna see big-eyes small-mouth are in for a rude awakening. |
