Glad to see some open mindedness here; I do have to say that the Mormons and Catholics I've come across are very much more accepting than the Christians, Gryph.
A lot of the Christians I know are quick to tell me I am wrong, whereas the Catholics and Mormons- and this isn't every Catholic and Mormon, just the good that outnumber the bad that I've met -accept that I am Catholic without much "well, you're wrong!".
Anywho! Really good to see open minds here, though, really. I thought that just sayin some of this would have crushed a few toes(and I'm not saying it hasn't). |

Despite what my other post may have sounded like, I accept that others have beliefs. What I don't accept is them trying to make others believe it. |

Okay I totally understand where your comin from Bumblebee. The majority of my extended familly are Baptist (Christian Fundamentalist). Now I have not told them I am a Buddhist/Pagan who also roleplays. I don't dare, I value my sanity, adn you know, my genitalia.
Now I am totally allright with other peopel worhipping other religions! I am religious and am okay with it. You know it's this idea that's been kicking around in peoples heads since oh around 0 AD, RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE.
Just cause you think the other person will go to 'hell' or whatever is not your fault, if they want to think something they can. If they don't, they can to!Hell most of my friends are atheist or agnostic. A few from other ones but hey whatever! I don't force my views on them, and vice versa!
So yeah just as a final note, a bit of massive irony. I am Budhdist/Pagan, and guess what my last name is?
POPE!

lol...i gotta say this, just because, but isnt catholithism part of christianity?
*is a devout catholic...and has the boy scout awards to prove it *
Isa believe that according to religion, that catholithism is actually a part of christianity, so when u guys say that catholithism is one thing, but christianity is another, it kind of doesnt make sense in me mind
Sorry for saying that, but isa gettin confoosled

Hmm...what happened to "live and let live"? It's one thing for people to share their beliefs respectfully; it's another to tell other people their own beliefs are wrong and to keep trying to convert them.
Bumblebee - You were in a tough situation yesterday, but I think you dealt with those two guys pretty well. After you told them you were only going to hell if you *believed* in the place, I thought they'd see your viewpoint and leave you alone...but they didn't. Anyway, hope you're feeling better tonight.
Tobias - yes, Catholicism is a branch of Christianity.

I have my own brand of religion. It doesn't have a name but it's a mix of Shinto and Christianity. To these self rightgeous religious boneheads who feel it is there god givin duty to cram every single line of their book down your through or kill someone in the name of their god they are THE sheep in which they speak of. Not the Shephards. The goddamn sheep. I pity the day if a man harnesses the full potential of his mind (since it is documented that man can only use 10% of his brain) and gives himself the title of god or messiah. Oh the chaos. It'll be like the Crusades and such all over again! |

Fanatacism in any form, be it blowing up a bus, launching a raid on a village, shooting a doctor in his own home...well you get the idea...is a very bad thing. Often though, fanatics and zealots are the way they are because the very thought of not being on the right path frightens them to degrees that we will never know.
And do remember people, religion doesn't suck, it's only the people who have beurocracized religion that suck |

Here's one thing that might help you guys understand the reason some religious people act the way they do.
Christianity (catholicsism included) is the "majority religion" meaning that it's the beliefs of the majority of religious people. Muslim, Hindu, Judeism and others like that are the "minority" compared to the various christian religions (trust me, there's ALOT). As most of you have no doubt noticed, the US has a very "be careful with the minority even if it means screwing the majority" additude.
Because of this additude some religious people are getting kinda scared that christianity is getting slowly wiped out of modurn culture so as not to offend the minority. To be honest it is, but it's not quite as bad as some think it is. This situation has caused some religious people to get very touchy about their beliefs. Good examples of this are the Ten Comandments, and New York prohibiting Manger Scenes to be displayed in schools, but alowing Muslim and Jewish symbols to be displayed.
If the government was acting so hostile towards your beliefs you'd probably be a little on edge too.
It doesn't excuse such behavour, but it's somewhat of an explaination at least.
Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. (I couldn't help it! ) |

Yo Joe!!
...but just to add in, there really is no excuse for ANY religion to be as rude or even SLIGHTLY rude to another. I don't mess with religions until their "followers" mess with me.
Pracitcally EVERY religious person(this is directed at those who have attend church regularly or enough to say they go to church at least once a month) I've met has questioned me on why I think the way I do. No euphamism in the world can come across as not rude in the case of the non-religion. Without resorting to the " 'god' is the creator" card, I would really like to know WHAT IS SO WRONG with not believing in a 'god' or believing in ANYTHING at that? Everytime I ask a religious person this question, it's always a selfish answer. To want someone to be of YOUR religion is selfish. I've seen people who were Atheist date/marry those of religion and in EVERY situation, the Atheist has yielded to the religion and accepted it to make their partner happy. NO ONE should EVER ask a loved one to change a religion for them, yet it happens.
I'm happy to say I've never been in situations like that, and I'm glad that I haven't.
...that was a tangent all it's own >D.
ANYWHO, though. This whole situation has cooled down in my head, so I can finally imagine these two people dying in the worst ways possible and still eat my food. Good'day mates! |

yes that is very true i have been taking many religious history classes and each and every religion at its core is a wonderful thing to have, it brings comfort to people, from the dwindling agricultural religions that only try and ensure the next crop or summer to the large religions that try and explain every facet of this life and beyond, and over time many terrible things have been don't in the name of religion, but you must remember that these religions really had no part in what happened, it was simply corrupt men looking for a sheltering cover of their actions.
but its not just the people who bureaucratized the religion its a matter of people no longer have fear and more importantly people are turning in on themselves and thinking of no other, this is the reason that most religions are represented badly, by people of little no, or miss informed faith.
people just need to realize its not what religion you follow, its just that you have a religion or just moral beliefs that guide you to be a good person. |
