Ok I am at work today and my boss tell me to go get his lunch,
so im at rallys and I gave her my bosses 10 and get back the change for a 20. so as soon as she comes back i tell her and give her the extra money back, and she was really happy and thanked me for bein honest. . . .
which is what this is about, that some one has to be thanked for being honest and doin the right thing. It should not have to be rewarded or even really be noticed, it should just be done. its just kinda sad that that is how this world works.

Yeah, really sad. Think about it. They decorate soldiers and policement for ... doing there jobs. lol That gives you an idea. When will a nurse be decorated for having done her job? I don't know. But if you ask me, she does a job just as important as the policemen. Considering we have to give those people rewards for doing what they a re paid to do ... gives you an idea of how many aren't doing there jobs <_< gah, maybe I'm just being a little too fatalistic here and not reasoning well

*nod nod* Ever watch Resevoir Dogs? The lanky guy, Mr. Pink, goes on a small rant about how he doesnt believe in tipping because he thinks its bull the waitress gets the tips and not the four people cooking in the back, the truck driver who brought the supplies, the guy cleaning the dishes, etc. Its along the same lines.

I think honesty should be commended as it is a good quality to have and not everyone does. Nor do I think everyone will possess at the same time.

I see where you are coming from though, Reaps. It's a sad world when we feel overly thankful "there are still people like you out in the world".

As for soldiers and police? Have you taken a look at a pay stub before? I can assure you the extent of the job is by no means weighed equally or less to the compensation. They deserve the respect and the accolades as it is they who are day in and out putting their lives on the line to make the world a better place. Maybe every day isn't on the edge but there is always the possibility and many people with families who are at risk of losing a father, mother, sister, brother, uncle or aunt prematurely.

As for wait staff, when you turn around making $2.18/hour, the cooks get a standard hourly rate, as does the truck driver, dishwashers, etc. And if the other restaurant workers don't then they get a tip share. So in turn Mr. Pink would be screwing all those other people out of a tip as well. I speak from experience. And when you are doing your job, and at most, the best you can do, yes tipping is appreciated and merited.

About hte policemen and slodier, I know that they probably don't get paid sa much as they should be for doing the risky job they make ... but I DO think they deserve to be respected even if they don't have medals of honor or anything, they are doing a job where they are willing to give there life away in order to "protect and to serve" community ... What I meant by comparing with the nurse is that ok, she might not risk her life as much as the soldier, but she might just end up saving more in her lifetime, then the soldier, not to mention that yes, the soldier will defend his country on his turf, or elsewhere, but how? by taking lives away, or treatening, so peace can be maintained ... hmm, that's why I no longer want to be a soldier, if I had to be in the army, I would be a medic, but I'd end up spending 70% of my time taking care of civilians.

And about the wait staff, I don't know if you have similar laws over there but here, the government takes off 8% of the waiters salary since it is taken for granted that they will get an extra, previously untaxed, 10% of the bill they give to the customers. As if they weren't low enough, they are taxed on what was probably there only source of minor-extra money ... nice move shity government -_-, hail to the rish, and death to the poors ... well no, it's more, hail to the rich, and starve the poor but still, don't kill em! we can't taxe dead people! ... gah ... urge to destroy world rising ... must think ... of happy thoughts ...

Tips...i wish i got those. No, we arent allowed to have a tip jar, cause of the fact that it "forces the customer to relinquish more money than owed."

But about the tips thingy, dooters is right. Many times, the tip is split, and many times, the other people get paid much more than the wait staff does. I, being the dood i am, like leaving them bigger than normal tips, cause i feel that they do just as much work as a chef. It is a hard-knock life to be a wait staff person Very Happy

That is all

Actually Doot yer wrong. Waitresses get paid $2.18 PLUS Tip. If their tips come under $5.15 an hour the establishment has to make up for the difference. IE She will ALWAYS make as much as the people cooking the food and will more than likely ALWAYS make more. So MR. Pink is in fact correct in not tipping.

And BWS here in America wait staff are taxed like everyone else. But they must REPORT their tips to their employer.

Also Reaper...You guys actually EAT at Rally's? *shivers*

Bull shellacky! Never once was it standard for the establishment to make up what the waitress lacked in tips. Believe me! There was many a time where the compensation was never matched to that of the other staff at the restaurant. But what would I know, I just waited tables. Wink

Albeit, I am in full agreeance that if you get crappy service, you leave a crappy tip. That or you complain to the manager. I guess I just expect more of service now.
