Alright, we've got a lot to discuss, specifically about the idea of our own rules vs. modifying another system. I vote for modifying another system, and based on my research so far, the DBZ CCG system looks to be a good start. I've seen Damion look at this some, and i agree that it's character driven combat system would work nice.
Too, the newest Starwars CCG is streamlined, and deals with different areas of combat. But we could decide to focus on character and ground combat.
The Magi-Nation system is nice, though I need to refresh myself on it, but thank Sperrit for that option.
I of course support Magic, but we don't need to go that route.
For reference, here is a card Sperrit made up that we could work with:
Name) Reverend
(Character Job/Description) PO Spiritual Advisor
Starting Energy: 16
Energize: 5
(Powers/Effects that that card can use) Power- Law&Chaos: Once per turn Rev can choose to do one of two things to a single creature in play. He can either increase the creature's defense by 5 or he can increase the creature's offense by 5.
This seems to fit well with the DBZ style rules, and that would allow us to make up training cards, and schools of combat, and other fun stuff.

Honestly, I'll tell ya, you guys will have MUCH more knowledge than I when it comes to card games other than those you play with a poker deck.
I'm all for the ides. I figure new images will be in need for those cards, so Chibs and I will have our pencils ready! |

I don't know card games all that well, but that seems like it could be pretty cool.
I'm all for it as long as i can have my "Dagger of Lensflare" ^_~ j/k
(actually, I doubt anyone even remembers that thing )
Anyhow, I'll be watching from the shadows with my pet dragon. :O Oh, and on that note, you know you can use the dragon if you want, Dootness. You were the one who was with me when I got him, after all.

I'm not familiar with the DBZ CCG rules. I'll try and find them. But I figure that as long as it's character driven it would work for this kind of game, because I think that that's what will be most true to PO: Keeping the characters as the main focus.

I'm going to be refreshing myself over the Christmas break, but the more I keep looking at it, DBZ seems like a good starting point for rules and design. |

The problem with attempting to explain CCG's without having one of them present at the explanation is that when certain things on the card are referenced, you can't see them.

that reminds me...Do any of you who play magic have Apprentice? It's basically MTGOnline for free, with the entire library of cards to boot. When I say the entire library, I mean the ENTIRE library. It has every set from Alpha to Onslaught once you've downloaded the expansion patch, including unglued. The only real problem is that it doesn't do anything for you. You have to tap the mana, you have to move the cards from your hand to the board, etc. It's all played on an honor system because there are infinite ways to cheat. But for all that, you still get the entire library of cards. If you don't have it, go here and download it Appr146. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE FILE DESCRIPTIONS. Then go back there and download Approracle.zip.
Ok, I'm done preaching.
Back on topic, I really think the game should be character-based. Like what I said in the store thread.

Like the character's super special moves should only be available to that character. And the other thing I like is that the basic attack cards should to different things depending on the abilities of the character who's using them. Again, like I said in the store thread.
There would be a lot more variables, but in the end, I think the game would be the better for it because it will be different. Does anyone agree with me? |
