Now that THAT nonsensical ranty title is out of the way I must air one of my BIGGEST pet peeves. EVER!

I went recently to go see Dawn of the Dead:

1) because I'm a glutton for punishment for those suspenseful moments (which all of them were pretty much predictable).
2) because my mentality is that a horror flick on a Sunday in the Bible Belt should be pretty empty
3) I'll go catch it in a ritzier part of town so as to not have to deal with idiot people who ruin my theater going experience.

Well to say the least, I was disappointed on all three parts.

1) It wasn't jump worthy - at all.
2) Apparently church lets out directly into horror flicks
3) Idiots are everywhere, no matter where you go.

To elaborate, here I am sitting in the theater awaiting the movie. All seems fine, people are chattering, it's a ok because the movie isn't on yet. The new thing the theater has going "The Twenty" gives you 20 minutes up to the movies REAL trailers of trailers to bide early arrivers time. Seems like an ok audience thus far. The real trailers kick on.

After the second trailer a family comes in. Please keep in mind this is a Rated R movie... gauranteed to be filled with blood, carnage and loud scary noises at sporadic times, this family walks in. It consists of mother, father, (aunt maybe), 7 year old girl and a baby under the age of 1 I am CERTAIN! Still sucking on a bottle, cradled in mommy's arms. The baby starts talking and crying 2 minutes into the film. Does mom take the baby out of the theater? NO. She stays there talking in a normal voice to the kid. The 7 year old gets scared to the point she's making loud noise so the friend/aunt/whatever takes her...

..to the BACK AISLE to watch the rest of the film.

Everything settles down. Guy behind me starts talking to the screen, making STUPID wise ass comments. He dies down. Guy in the row in front of me starts up.

20 minutes into the film, mom in the same aisle as me's cell phone goes off. Six rings into it she finally gets to the phone... AND ANSWERS IT! Does she leave the theater? NO! She continues to talk on the phone while the movie is going which upsets her baby.

Guy behind me acts up. Guy in front of me picks up where he left off.

Parents who takes thier children (young enough that you KNOW they shouldn't be there) to rated R flicks (ones that are ABSOLUTELY WITHOUT A DOUBT rated R for the blood and violence) should have thier children taken away from them. If you didn't want the responsibility of having children that would cut into your movie watching, that you JUST HAD TO SEE without arranging for a babysitter, then you should have never had sex in the first place and shouldn't raise children because you obviously have NO CLUE what respect for other people is and are bound to raise your children thinking that same IDIOTIC mentalility is acceptable. I don't pay close to 10 dollars to listen to your phone conversation and your children shriek in a theater when both things should OBVIOUSLY not be there.

~deep breath~

I'm all for separation on this subject. It should almost come down to prescreening people when they see movies. "Excuse me sir/miss how would you react to this scene" ~plays scene~ If they can't handle being in a quiet theater then they should put them in the noisy one. There is appropriate feedback to movies but having full blown conversation with the screen is beyond rediculous. If a parent is purchasing a rated R ticket with a toddler in arms then they shouldn't be allowed to watch the film. They should have parent coundellors on hand to get it through their thick skulls what they are doing is absolutely stupid.

With that being said, don't waste too much money on Dawn of the Dead. Some funny moments. Worth waiting for cable.

Yer FIRST mistake was going to a Movie on a weekend..Your second was not leaving the theater and talknig to the manager and DEMANDING your money AND a free gift for their shitty ushers failing to do their job.

See in AZ our ushers sporadically enter the movie and watch from a hidden area for like five minutes a hit. If they hear people goin on like you said or see people havin sex in the back row they radio the projection booth and stop the film and escort those people from the theater.

So ummm..Yeah!

Sorry you had a sucky time..I'm sure *I* could have made it better for ya.

Thats the reason I dont ever go to a movie befor 10 pm if its on a week end, that way the theater is usually either half way empty or at least not full of screaming kids

For real. Reaper's got the right idea. Though, I've got to admit, I never would have guessed an entire family, complete with baby, going to an It's-Rated-R-Because-It's-Bloody movie. I mean, that's just plain weird, I'm tell'n ya. I expect that kinda thing when I see G, PG or PG-13 films, that it has a possibility of happening with an inverted ratio directly proportional to how high the movie is rated (Lower Rating = High Probability), but it's rare that you get that kinda thing in an R movie. It's usually just bored teenagers and couples who want an excuse to jump into each other's laps. Still, that does suck, Dooters. I think AZ's got the right idea with how to deal with that shit.

I hate to defy Momma, but I rather liked Dawn of the Dead. I found it to be funny in the right parts, very cinematic, scary at the right parts, a tad cliche', but the zombie industry had been like this for sometime. I also found it to be like 28 Days later in many respects.

I think its one of the best zombie movies to come out in a long time, but Im not a huge connesuer of the zombie genre, so I could be a bit of a neophyte. In any case, bottom line, I enjoyed it *shrug*

Az was striaght about you not going to the manager and demanding a ticket. they give those things out like water because they really don't wanna hear you complain and the rain checks usually do a good job of shutting you up. Sounds like a really bad expereince all together though. Who brings their kid to a movie like that. It scared the shit out a me - a 21 year old, albeit Im a pussy, but still.

I guess me being so pissed off through the movie ruined it for me. ~shakes fist at movie goers~ We rarely have ushers come in to those things. They may escape my scope. I really haven't had much trouble in the weekend movie department. Maybe I've just been more lucky on opening nights because the people who are there actually WANT to see the movie. Just had to vent though.

The movie staff would be kind of sick of me though, that is how many times I have crappy people in there with me. (most of the time on the weekdays).

I agree Dai, so I'm not looking at you defying me Wink, it had some good comedy in it, it was just lost to me with the added taglines from Ass #1 and #2 in the audience.

Well, I saw Dawn of the Dead too, but in a quiet theater, and I didn't think it was all that great. It was way too predictable for me. "I'll put a sheet over this lady who died of a zombie bite. Surely she will stay dead." Rolling Eyes But Steve did have some pretty funny lines.

I do know what you guys are talking about. When I used to go to the late show on the weekends, it was great because we were the only group in the theater sometimes. But then a whole helluva lot of people came to the movies and everyone had to make a joke after each line. We even stopped joking so much in respect for the other people, but they didn't care. I hate that so much, and that's why I'll never go see Rocky Horror at the Movies. Well, that and the transvestites. Mr. Green

I love that I'm the only perosn on the planet that has never seen and refuses to ever see Rocky Horror Picture Show....One cause It mars the view I have on one of my favorite actors..That one guy with the accent..Tim (Robbins?)something...hehehe...Two cause my friend started playing it once and I said, 'What the hell is this shit?!" and fell asleep in 5 minutes....And Three people told me what happens at the live shows like they pull people out of the audience or some BS and I REALLY don't like strangers touching me...Like to the point where I will seriously punch and kick my way to their spleen. So yeah..fun fun.
