Bush Backs Ban On Gay Marriages

I can understand your point of veiw yes. however,
They aren’t consumed in a life of sin, even if that were the case marriage would not make it any more or any less sinful. It would only allow two people to solidify their love with a statement they want to spend the rest of their lives together. Even if you think homosexuality is a sin you should respect that.

I'm thinking we have about exhausted the topic on this. I understand we all have our own opinions and this definitely is a heated debate but we are at a point (and have been - I'm guilty of it as well) where we are repeating ourselves and began on a whole other branch of arguing.

The initial post was about how Bush was trying to pass an Amendment banning gay marriage. Whether or not he is trying to define the word marriage, it is still with underlying beliefs he is doing so.

This cannot be debated without religion being involved and therefore negates the idea of separation of church and state.

I would like to quote something in closing,

"When the government puts its imprimatur on a particular religion it conveys a message of exclusion to all those who do not adhere to the favored beliefs. A government cannot be premised on the belief that all persons are created equal when it asserts that God prefers some." Supreme Court Justice Harry A. Blackmun in the Lee v. Weisman ruling, 1992.

You cannot pass a law based on a particular religion. It strips any other person (black, white, gay, straight, young, old, woman, man) of thier rights as HUMANS. We tend to forget no and again that we are such as that and are entitled to our pursuit of happiness.

If you live by the word of your Lord, then it is not just of anyone else to tell you, you are wrong. But love and compassion are things we are all taught, regardless of religion, and I think we should always remember that.
