Oh, come on. You guys all knew this was coming. The resident Drizzt fangirl is here to ask-- how many of you have read Forgotten Realms books? Which are your favourites? I've only ever read the Dark Elf ones (and I'm a little bit behind on those, not having finished The Thousand Orcs yet) but I'm fascinated by the idea of the one that's about the Seven Sisters, I think? Something like that. |

Read all of Salvatore's FR books. THe Drizzt series is good but only when Drizzt is actually in it. But to be honest I've felt them become a bit long-winded of late.
I actually much more prefer the Cleric Quintet. Cadderly and his buttkicking monk wife Danica are essentially my favorite Realms couple.
SilverFall (the Seven Sisters) is not a BAD book per se....you just have to REALLY like the Seven Chosen to get into it. |

The Seven Sisters one is out now? I -must- find it. They sound fascinating.
I agree, the best DE books are the ones with Drizzt...although I do adore the Jarlaxle and Artemis ones, because those two are hilarious. Hate Wulfgar, though. Hate. Hate. Hate. |

Entreri retired from assassinating and Jarlaxle is with him. Apparently Jarlaxle is posing as Drizzt and the two of them are seeking adventures on the open road because Artemis hated stayin in one place for so long and watching his back and Jarlaxle was getting sick of the Underdark.
And I've read all of the Crystal shard up through Thousand Orcs. I also read the Canticle which was AWESOME. And I've been reading a lot of Elaith Cranbor (Sp?) and other FR books..I'm a fanboy yo. |

Az I believe you are talking about Elaith "The Serpent" Craulnober. Or as I refer to him in regards to his Forgotten Realms 3E Sourcebook Image, "Mr. Dandypants".
The Spine of the World just seems to me to be a novel for Salvatore completists. I don't even think you need to read the book to understand the Dark Elve series.
Servant of the Shard was decent enough, but to me, it just seemed to wuss down Entreri. "Hijinks" is not a word I commonly associate with the Realms, and the whole book felt like a leadup to a sort of "buddy" story where hijinks is exactly what you're going to expect. |

True, but Entreri's getting older, so he's got to wuss down a little bit. I mean, you can't exactly be as kickass at fifty as you are at twenty, right? And the books are at Drizzt's life-pace, which is a lot slower than Entreri's, so it makes sense that while Drizzt hasn't changed much, Entreri has.
Jarlaxle's still the same, though. Hijinks is such a Jarlaxle thing anyways.

I kinda liked the whole Entreri Jarlaxle thing. Mainly cause I liked that Entreri showed Drizzt how fightings done! YEAH!
Drizzts may be a better fighter but Entreri is WAY smarter and allies himself with capable people and not the rag-tag band Drizzt chills with. Even though Bruenor is da Bomb. Cadderbrie is so full of crap and worthless...In one book she said they should start asking the goblins and dueregar to leave before combatting them...Damn wussy. And now Wulfgar, arguably almost as cool as Bruenor Battlehammer, is a wuss now too.
Basically the series is pulling a Star Wars thing..Each book is just about Luke getting stronger and stronger...Even when he goes to the Dark Side or dies he keeps coming back.
What they need to do is give Drizzt some more psychological damage like when they made his dead father try to kill him. |

...Catti-Brie is awesome! shuttup, boyo! *swats* ^_^ But, then, I also hate Wulfgar passionately, and like him better now that he is a wuss mainly because now he is NO LONGER IN THE STORY YAY!.
*coughs*
Entreri does roxxor. And Jarlaxle is the best. I love how he's got a way out of -any- situation. That thing with the fireball and the wall..priceless.
...have you read The Thousand Orcs yet, Azvegeta? From what I hear, that's pretty psychologically damaging there. I so need to read it, but I'm on a Madeleine L'Engle kick right now. |
