I wasn't sure if I should put this Here or in click it.
I put it here b/c this is basically like progress quest, but it has a purpose!
I recently joined Grid.org.
Basically it is a client program that hooks to a main host and uses your computer to process computations for scientific research. Right now, I'm working on 2 computations for small pox. Yesterday, one of them was cancer related.
When you finish one of your computations, you get points.
What I did is install the client and then set it to only do computations when my screen saver is active. That way when I'm doing stuff it has no affect. But when it is doing stuff... it uses just about all of your juice. Hence the reason I only let it go when my screen saver is active.
Download the client here
After downloading and installing the client, go here to join the Pocket Otaku team.
Just type Pocket Otaku in the search box. It should come up.
Points are given out after you complete a task. When the screen saver kicks on (or you click the little (i) on your client) you will begin to see a 3D rendering of what you are doing. It will also tell you how close you are to completing your task.
Your point total updates once a day. It updates at 8PM eastern I believe.

Ah. You found that place. I've been on it before it was The Grid, back when it was United Devices. I'd join on with the PO team, but I'm already part of the team that I signed on initially to, and they won't let me be part of multiple teams at once.

So are you actually DOING something or are these computations that have already been computed by other computers and yer just seing if your computer can compute what they computed? |

Actually... you can have it running at anytime. I'm trying out having it running while I'm at work.
The process runs a very low priority so everything you do pulls the processor power back from it. Nice.
your monitor doesn't have anything to do with it really. So you can make it a screen saver and set the time on the screen saver the same as your monitor shut off.
There ya go.

I'd so do this but I don't leave my computer on for anytime other than when I'm on it cause my Video-card fan is making a loud ass whirry noise and I tried fixing it to no avail and as far as I know they don't sell video card fans...*sigh* |
