April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the Arizona Sexual Assault Network (AzSAN) is sponsoring the First Annual Denim Day in Arizona on Wednesday, April 21.

Employees are invited to wear Denim to work on April 21 to raise awareness of the issue of sexual assault. Employees that wish to participate should ensure that denim wear is in good condition and representative of "casual business attire".

The Denim Day Campaign began in 1999 in California to protest an Italian High Court decision to overturn a rape conviction because the victim was wearing jeans. Charges against a 45-year-old rape suspect were dismissed because his 18-year old victim was wearing jeans at the time of the attack. The judgment sparked a worldwide outcry from those who understand the coercion, threats, and violence with which the act of rape is accomplished.




Apparently Italians think that if a girl wears jeans she's fare game for rapists...Yay!

I would like to know more about that case, because I have to say that makes absolutely no sense at all.

Apparently, and this is some truth some speculation, in foreign countries Denim is a commodity and is a BIG luxury...As opposed to being associated with Red-necks here in the states. So a girl wearing Denim there is the same as a girl going to a night club here and grind dancing all the guys while wearing a string bikini.

I still think that that is ridiculous. Even if that is the case, its like saying I raped someone because they were wearing a Rolex. They should have the common sense enough to realize that, not matter how you look at it, wearing jeans is not as sexually revealing as, say, grind dancing on random guys while wearing a tiny-miniskirt and no underwear.

Truly. Then again, maybe those italians make jeans so cheaply thin that they're see-thru?

I said speculation...But it's true that Jeans are a commodity..Maybe in foreign lands only hookers wear jeans? But does that mean hookers should be raped?

No girl should ever be raped but if a girl goes to a night club with no panties and a short skirt on and gives beaver shots to every man in the bar then SHE must accept SOME of the blame for being raped. IE be a C*ck-tease prepare to get a C*ck...And then tack on something that ryhmes with Tease.

But then again, maybe Italian culture portrays jeans as the epitome of the "Shtupp me" look.

Well, if Italy is anything like "The Godfather" then yeah..Only whores wear jeans..Everyone else wears Armani or if yer an old Italian guy white shirt and suspender Armani's. And old females wear them homely clothes that are all baggy. And other than the old Italian females there are no young Italian females they're all in a cave till they turn 40 or something learning how to make bitching pasta.

SIDE note> No one knows where the exact term Mafia comes from but it is speculated that it came when North Italy was bitch slapping Southern Italy and one day a Northerner stole a womans 14 year old daughter from her and she ran into the street yelling, "Ma Fia! Ma Fia!" which means "My Daughter! My Daughter!" at which point many men showed up and handed the man his ass. The Northern Italians retaliated and killed all the men. Then an organization was started to usurp the control of Italy from the Northerners called the "Ma-fia"
