Is the culture of 24-hr news that's doing this to us. Normally, if you have to wait for your evening broadcast to get news, it is news. Nowadays, you can just flip on CNN or go up to the web o get any sort of activity in the world reported. With the larger amount of time to fill, the quality of the "news" goes down quite a bit. |

Even BBC has a website. Plus, since cable and/or satellite television is becoming more popular amongst the populace, those news channels are beginning to see more exposure. If we get rid of the 24/7 exposure (or limit it to the 'Net, even), then news quality goes up because the newsmedia has to choose what it wants to present instead of giving five minutes to any tiny little thing that happens. It's like Excel says - get rid of CNN and it's ilk, and I think the news will become better. |
