What comes in the package exactly? My reason for asking is that I don't want FF. I read that you can install up to a 120G HD so I'm thinking I can just buy an HD and put it in. I'm also guessing the package comes with some kind of installation disc. Does it say anything about installing third party drives? I can't see paying for a "40G" HD when FF takes up 14G of it. Forget that!
If I can install my own drive then I'd probably get the HD Loader http://www.the-magicbox.com/0405/game053104e.shtml |

There was a release that came with linux, but as far as I know you have to have the Network Adaptor to install the harddrive as well, because of the way the design fits in the PS2.
I only know about the individual release because a friend of mine MUDded forever from his PS2. Ill get out my manual when im not on my way to work and see if third party drives will work with it. I'm thinking they may not because of the weird way that the HDD slides into the case, but we'll see. |

Well as long as it fits I'm pretty sure of being able to get the install disc. I have seen it in pics and it looks like s standard drive. I just don't know if you need the cradle or it can just be installed without a fitted piece to hold it. Maybe I can rig something. Guess it's time to open up my PS2 and see. |

i REALLY doubt it. I personally don't think the HDD is worth it right now. Perhaps when more games come out that utilize it. FFXI comes FREE with the HDD so the price you pay is for the HDD itself. |

I don't think it's worth it either but the HD Loader allows you to save games directly to the HD so you don't even need the disc to run them. Think of the time saved from loading. If I don't have to buy Sony's then I'll save a ton. I can get an 80G drive for less than what they're charging. |

I know its really rediculous. The HD loader does look like a very promising utility. I just don't like tampering with unofficial hardware or acessories to be honest. I've had too many bad experiences in the past with third party stuff. I'd imagine you'd have some difficulty what with the HDD requiring the network adapter to seal the case but if you could make it work I'd say go for it if you know what you are doing. |

Actually the HDD DOESN'T save games to better loading times...So far it only does it for Resident Evil Outbreak and it BARELY makes a difference. |

Apparently a third party HD can fit inside this thing, I just have no idea how. It connections are on the side anf the whole contraption just slides in there, it not like a normal PC where you have the cords to plug into it. If their are HDs that for PS2, they are specially made by companies, ie not just a good cheap one at office depot will do the trick. |
