Wireless network!!!

Well I finally did it, I got the network in my house wireless.

Went out and bought a D-Link Wireless Router (802.11G) and I'm am hooked up.

Right now the only think I get on wirelessly with is my laptop right now since it was already ready for wireless internet.

Man, honestly, it seems like it's a lot faster now wirelessly then it was on the wire.

It's good stuff!

I've only ever used B, so I don't know how G speeds feel.

Just make sure to set up WEP on your router.. too many times I've seen people leave their wireless wide open where anybody can warchalk in.

yeah G is noticably faster than B

and the wep key is set. I'm not about that whole "wide open" bs.

You might want stronger encyrption than WEP. From what I've heard here and there, WEP's not the best there is. (It's better than nothing, yes.)

So what do I need to go wireless? Aside from a functioning ethernet port?

actually, you don't need a functioning ethernet port.

You can go buy a wireless card and do it that way.

The 802.11G card from D-Link is $50. There is a rebate on it of $20, but it's 1 per product per household so I already got that. Unless we can get something else figured out. I'm still trying to figure a way to get all the rebates.

What you could do (which is what I'm going to see about doing) is filling it out for other people, like your parents in AZ, then when the check comes in to them in their name, they write you a check for that and cash the rebate check.

Another idea is to get a 802.11B wireless adaptor which will cost you less and will be a different product so you will get your rebate. However it won't be as fast.
