I'm posting this message to let all you OMMr's out there know to look for a game with good up to date ready to react General maintenance teams. I currently have an account on the game OMM Ragnarok Online. Thoough a good game sometimes the fact of it being a good game isn't good enough, their General Maintenace team is not the best, and hardly respond to their help topics on the board. So keep this inmind I call it ....
Kie's 3 for Wee!
1. When looking for an OMM be sure to read about them first, do research on their game, go through their topics, and post on their FAQ board if they have one and look at the topics if there are any topics of problems that haven't been addressed recently, then that's a sign it may not be the best OMM for you.
2. Look for topics that show signs of muturity, a friendly non erashional OMM may be hard to come by, but their out there.
3. Look for the latest updates and news on the games. For any problems updates. For example, right now on iro since the latest town "Kunlun" update, problems have been arising in different towns. In payon if you go 1 or two east of that town, you will get stuck there, and same with geffen tower lvl 3. (so much for test servers)
-_-....
Just some helpful advice for new OMMr's. (REMEMBER THEM!) |

Well, in my experience with MMOGs, it's not so much the game to find, but the community within it. There can be bad eggs anywhere, but there can also be quite good ones as well.
Before I got into MMOGs, I played a lot of non-persistant games like Diablo and Phantasy Star Online. They didn't really call for GM interaction since it was a set game, but what changed were the players.
During Ragnarok Online's Alpha test is when I began playing that, so I know where the game's come from, and it's come a very long way. The iRO beta didn't even have english-speaking GMs. Case in point it's a very difficult thing for there to be player interaction within the development community in a translated MMOG. There are english-speaking representatives, translators, but never a full-blown interaction unless you can speak Korean.
Of course, the next MMOG I got into was exactly the same case. I played FFXI for a year, the majority of it dealing with the import version. Call me a masochist, but it was probably the most fun when there was that sense of foreigness, mystery and discovery with the fellow importers. We couldn't contact GMs, because most of us didn't speak japanese fluently etc. etc. But of course, once FFXI went live in the US, their english support turned out to be horrid.
I'm now currently beta testing both World of Warcraft and Everquest II, both of which are showing enormous potential in both gameplay and customer service as well. Which you play, in this case, solely is based on what type of gameplay you enjoy. Of course, both companies do have their quirks; Blizzard tends to take a very very long time to come out with something and constantly bumbles things a bit despite working very hard. SoE tends to be very efficiant and precise in pushing out new content so far. One patch per week, and most patch-related fixes are done within a day. Both have very personable developers and GMs, so it seems the up and coming MMOGs have learned from failed predecessors that your tips warn against.
In any case, those are good tips, but another very key thing is if the game is quality as well. There has to be an equal balence, in my eyes, to make the game worth playing. It would be equally painful to play a horrible game with great customer service (See: Saga of Ryzom), than to play a quality game with bad customer service.
Just my two cents |
